British Air Force Typhoon FGR4s have operated alongside French warplanes in a joint strike on an hidden munitions depot in Syria operated by the Daesh militant organization, per a report from the UK's MoD.

The facility, identified by intelligence, was believed to be housing weapons and explosive materials, the statement said, and was positioned in hills just north of the ancient city of Palmyra in Syria's central region.

"Our fighter planes used laser-guided Paveway IV weapons to hit a number of entry passages down to the depot... early reports suggest the objective was successfully hit," the MoD said.

There was no evidence of any civilian impact in the operation conducted Saturday night and each participating jet returned to base without incident, the defence officials confirmed.

The Typhoon FGR4s were backed up by a Voyager refuelling tanker.

Daesh - alternatively referred to as ISIS - enforced extremist governance over significant areas in Syria and Iraq until 2019.

"This strike underscores the UK's leading role, and commitment to stand shoulder to shoulder with our partners, to eradicate any resurgence of the terrorist group and their dangerous and violent ideologies in the region," the British Defence Secretary the minister stated.

British military aircraft have conducted patrols over Syrian airspace to "forestall any attempted resurgence" of the group after its military defeat at the climactic battle in Baghuz in the year 2019, the authorities noted.

"I must thank all the members of British forces who took part in this mission for their professionalism and their bravery," Healey commented. "Including them were numerous British personnel on duty over the holidays. This mission, to eliminate dangerous terrorists who threaten our way of life, demonstrates how our armed forces are always on standby, throughout the year, ensuring Britain's security domestically and influential overseas."

Last December, the United States armed forces conducted what it called a "major assault" targeting IS targets in Syria, after an assault killed two US servicemembers and a local interpreter in the Palmyra area.

The U.N. estimates IS still maintains an estimated 5,000 to 7,000 fighters in both countries.
